Tail Lift

What is a Tail Lift?

tail lift, also known as a liftgate, is a mechanical device mounted to the rear of a vehicle, such as a truck, van, or lorry, to assist with loading and unloading goods. It functions by raising and lowering heavy or bulky items between the vehicle’s cargo area and the ground level, reducing the need for manual lifting and making the process safer and more efficient.

Key Features of a Tail Lift:

  1. Hydraulic or Electric Mechanism: Operates via hydraulic or electric systems for smooth lifting and lowering.
  2. Weight Capacity: Typically designed to handle loads ranging from 300 kg to over 2,000 kg, depending on the model.
  3. Platform Design: Comes in various sizes and materials, often with non-slip surfaces for added safety.
  4. Remote Controls: Many modern tail lifts feature handheld or fixed remote controls for easy operation.

Types of Tail Lifts:

  1. Column Tail Lifts: Mounted on vertical columns, ideal for heavy-duty operations.
  2. Cantilever Tail Lifts: Features a hinged platform that folds against the back of the vehicle when not in use.
  3. Slider Tail Lifts: Stowed underneath the vehicle and slid out for use, providing better rear access.

Benefits of a Tail Lift:

  • Efficiency: Speeds up the loading and unloading process.
  • Safety: Reduces the risk of injuries associated with manual lifting.
  • Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of goods and cargo types.

Tail lifts are essential for businesses involved in logistics, delivery, and transportation, where handling heavy or awkward loads is a frequent requirement.
Tipping containers are more suitable for unloading loose materials like sand or gravel, while Open Bins are ideal for bulkier items.
